Russian Ballet Legend to Sue Over Fake Show

Legendary Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya has warned unsuspecting punters to beware of fakes after hearing of a show touring Israel under her name.
An on-going tour set up by the REST International Company claimed to bring the “Russian Classical ballet of Maya Plisetskaya” to audiences throughout Israel from Oct. 24 – Nov. 2.
But Plisetskaya herself, who now lives in Spain, said she had no involvement in the production and is taking legal action against the organisers.

Plea for the audience
“I would like to inform the Israeli public that these are imposters using my name without my knowledge,” she raged on Newsru.co.il. “I am not artistically responsible for the quality of the performances, and I would like the deceived spectators to know this.”
Plisetskaya, who was a star ballerina with the Bolshoi theatre in a career which spanned three decades, remains a huge draw in ballet circles.
And her fame became global when she was first allowed to tour internationally in 1959, thrilling audiences with her technical skill and dramatic stage presence.
Since retiring from the stage she has continued to win acclaim for her choreography and writer, and picked up the Legion d’Honneur from the French government.
Lawsuit will follow
The ballerina said her fund planned to sue the organisers for using her name, which is protected by international copyright laws.
Plisetskaya, 84, stressed that the gullible customers were being cheated after they bought expensive tickets. “I have no idea what troupe it is, and who is working with it,” she told Echo Moskvy radio station.
“I should be artistically responsible for what is going on under my name, because people come to see Maya Plisetskaya, and I have no idea what goes on behind my back,” she said.
