Oyavlen Prize winner Rossica!
The evening of 25 May, the day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, in-store London Review Bookshop hosted award ceremony Rossica. Award was Amanda Love Darragh for the translation of the book Maria Galina "Givi and Shenderovich" ("Iramifications" - so named for the book was translated). Also was awarded Rossica Young Translators Prize, established this year for the best literary translation from Russian to Anliyskogo young translator to 24 years. Prize was awarded to James Renn, a student at School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London. Award, which presutstvovali publishers, translators, writers, journalists and many academics, has become a vivid and interesting event.
Zhleny jury commended the publishers, translators and organizers for a great Number and variety of books submitted for the award. They also noted how hard it was to determine the short list and winner of the high level of remittances.
Jury highlighted the translation of Anna Karenina, "performed by Kirill Zinoviev and Jenny Hughes. Translation would be published by publishing house "One World Classics" in 2008. Also was highlighted translate Devils, performed by Robert Maguaerom and published by "Penguin".
The prize of 5 000 pounds will be divided between the translator, Amanda Love, Darren, and Publishers' Voice. "
Award Rossica Young Translators Prize, established by the Academia Rossica, is 300 pounds. The award will be annual and will continue to contribute to the emergence of young, talented and active translators of fiction.
"It was a difficult and exhilarating experience, which portends a great future Russian literature and the study of Russian literature in the English-speaking countries," - said Anthony Briggs.
